Not really.  They would pretty much be the same size (electrically speaking,
not physically) as when using large pole transformers to run huge coils.
For example, even a big tesla coil running at 50 kilowatts would only be
drawing about 3-4 Amps from the 14.4kV line.  The only reason the filters /
ballasts would be large is that you would need higher voltage stand-off.
