Glenn,

Before you strip off windings, consider adding more inductance to the
primary so your MMC capacitance can be smaller.  You can 1) add more turns
to your spiral, 2) add a second spiral above or below the first one with
plastic insulation between the two pancakes, or 3) add some external
off-axis inductance.  All have been discussed much and are in the archives.
2) has the added benefit of more inductance resulting from the mutual
inductance of the two windings.
