"Pole Pig" is a perfectly acceptable and hallowed term when referring to
oil filled, pole mounted, power distribution transformers. The "pig"
part arises from the fact that the outside of the transformers are
normally covered in oil due to thermal expansion of the liquid contents
and the venting of the same to the outside of the case making the
transformer "as slippery as a pig".
