RE: Tuning Troubles

John Couture

Thanks for the input.
I think the figures you provided are accurate.

I have bigger troubles now.
I have to unpot one of my neons and do some repairs. :-(

I used two mica 1.8nfd 10KVAC transmitting caps on either leg of the paired
NST's, to ground, hoping to save them from RF damage. I also added 2/ 2mH,
18 Guage, ferrite core coils in series with each leg. My safety gaps 1/4"
to the NST case per leg would let go quite violently about every half second.
I'm no longer sure what to use for protection because I think my protection
is the cause of failure.
I grounded both 15K/30 NSTs and the mica caps, and the safety gap to the
house ground. The TC sec. has a dedicated RF ground.

It has become quite apparent that my coil was doomed before I plugged it
in. LOL!
I was in too much of a rush...even though it took me a year and a half from
start to finish.
I read as many posts and visited a large number of sites during that time.
I guess I have lots of time once again to figure out what to do....

Thanks to people like you I may once again see sparks!
