The location is New Zealand, about 100' asl. The welder was one of a
number of fairly ordinary 50Hz AC arc welders with the shunt pulled
out to around the 120A mark. The rod in the handpiece was the usual
flux-coated stick. The flux may have contributed to the result. I'm
not sure what the o/c voltage was but somewhere between 40 and 80 I
expect.
