No problem at all. I have made my
coils with wire taken from discarded
relays, with as many as five sections
in a coil. Just take some minimal care
to not leave large sharp protrusions
in the splices, and cover everything
with a reasonable amount of varnish. I
made my splices by soldering the wires
one above the other radially, so the
regularity of the winding is not
disturbed. The solder naturally
smoothes the joint and doesn't form
points. The small bumps that result
never shown any sign of corona.
