It's ok to coat it with something that is non conductive like high quality
polyurethane. You know, on the primary it probably doesn't matter if it's
conductive or not??? You will have to leave a section uncoated so you can
still have a place to tap it though. Maybe you could leave the bottom
uncoated since it really cant be seen anyway.
