Flash tubes are usually Xenon at around atmospheric pressure (450 and 900
torr are both fill pressures I've seen in datasheets)

High Pressure Xenon Short Arc (projector lamps) tubes are much higher
pressure (hence the explosion hazard).

There are also flash lamps using Deuterium and Krypton.
