Gerry,
Hard drawn brass tube has high internal stresses which can be relieved by
heating in an oven for an hour at a temperature of about 300 degrees
centigrade under protective gas. Quenching with oil or water will barely
help softening because of its bronze nature. Plumbers have bending apparatus
for pipes, but I don't know to what diameter.
Wish you luck, Willem

Hi,
I seem to remember from my antediluvian high school days that we softened
work-hardened copper by heating it to red hot and quenching it in a
"pickling solution" of dilute sulfuric acid and copper sulfate. I remember
that it turned the surface pinkish and made it quite soft. I don't know if
this would work on brass or not. In those pre-OSHA days, anyone who
spattered acid on himself or others lost 5 points for the day's work and
had to pay for any damaged clothing.
