Dear Gary,

Let me clarify my previous post on the wattmeter tests.
I misspoke:

"absolute-value-of-the-average" was dyslexic on my part;
"average-of-the-absolute-values" of instantaneous current
is correct.

In the experiments with the dimmer and the diode:
the average-of-the-absolute-value of current falls to 50%;
the power falls to 50%;
and the RMS value of current falls to 70.7%
of the values with them shorted.
