looks like around 1885 the discovery of the two coils on a solid disk 
armature mechanism was made by Ferraris in Italy, and 1886, the meter was 
invented.

around the early 1890's, the inductive disk, etc.

By the way, Tesla got a patent on the original 1865 discovery of the disk, 
showing priority (keep those lab notebooks?)


The socket type meter we are all familiar with came out in the late 20s
