Hi Bert,
Yup! My model-T ignition coil still works! I have 14 of Morgan's books,
plus Willard Doan's "Experimental Electricity for Boys" This is a more
"modern" book (1959) ;-) My original plan came from "The Boy Mechanic -
Volume 4 -1924" which my dad bought new in ~1926 and which I still have.
Not terribly efficient designs, but 100% makable from stuff you'd find
around the farm. I think part of the lure of classic TC's is that you don't
need an electronics supply house, any commercially-built electronic
components, or $100s to make a working coil.
Making a Tesla coil is like making bread: Some make their bread in bread
machines, some in mixing bowls, and some start by planting and harvesting
the wheat. And some folks get their daily bread from the supermarket, or
the "day-old" store. In the end, all enjoy their "bread", but the
experiences and perspectives are all different. I hope the low-tech end of
the TC spectrum is never forgotten
