RE: homemade rolled cap

Cut the centers out of l2 clear popbottles (so you get a long strip) (clean em first)
roll up with tinfoi so one sheet sticks out each side
give about 1" clearance for 20kv
gets about 3~6nf per cap depending on how wrinkled you got the foil (less wrinkles = higher capacitance) you can also roll them ontop of eachother to save space (usally can roll the center one down to about 1" inter diamiter)
Highly suggested that you don't use them over 10kv for any extended peroid of time, 20kv would be rather bad for anything but short tests. Low power arcover around the clearance beween the sheets usally is not destructive, however I have seen some medium power arcovers actualy cause the arc to cut though the plastic reduceng clearance
Very cheap at around $0.40 each (Deposit here on popbottles)
Probley not great for high power without alot in series/parallel.
if your running a telsa coil id highly suggest droping the voltage to 10~20kv

Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me how to build a good high
voltage(40+kv) rolled cap that is not extreemely
expensive?
Bobby,
