Hi,

Mild current limited voltage testing will not hurt them as say from a small HV power supply (10mA). They mean the full current over voltage test done at the transformer repair shop which is NOT current limited other than a breaker. That would quickly overheat and destroy the MOV stack.

So it seems that testing might trash them for lightning protection purposes.
