Gary,

Personally, knowing what's in the pitch inside the NSTs, I think I's rather not have the volatiles being evolved inside the oven that I eat from. And, if it does boil over or spill, cleanup of hot tar from the oven or kitchen floor would definitely be a major PITA.

Every spring and fall, the collection area at my local waste transfer station fills up with cast off barbecue grills, many in seemingly fine condition. If I had a couple of NSTs to depot, I'd just wait till one of the grills shows up, cook off the NSTs somewhere downwind in the back yard, and then drag the cooker back to meet its ultimate fate.

Next time the wife says she is going to have here hair fixed you can say, I didn't know your hair was broken how long will it take you to get it fixed? If it is a long hair apointment maybe you can talk here into stopping at the grocery store too, fill the car up with gas too, maybe a few other stop on the way home and you can buy yourself several hours of time with the kitchen oven. As long as you don't over heat the tar it will not smoke and it will not boil over. BBQ grill works too. I have a wood stove in the work shop I set the neon on the stove and in about an hour the tar is melted. I once had a yard sale kitchen stove that I used for projects like this.
