I just got rid of several spools of fiber - it's easy to find at swap meets ("trunk sales" in the UK, I think) where electronics is sold - I bought 4 or 5 lengths ranging from 30 to 100 meters, with terminations for $5, then discovered I couldn't use it for what I wanted. Telecom companies discard moderate lengths (a few tens of meters) all the time also.

        I last got a length from a UK supplier Maplin www.maplin.co.uk I'm
not sure if they ship outside of the UK, but its worth a go..
