The problem with using these caps in a disruptive coil is that the silver
plating that makes up each plate is gradually destroyed over time. As this
happens, the capacity drops and you have to continually adjust your primary
tap to compensate. I think others will agree that you'd be better off with
an MMC cap.

   I've had good luck running these with a 12 kV, 60 ma transformer.
Failure mode, if they are run long enough to overheat (say more than a minute in my case) is puncture of the ceramic rather than loss of plating. I've autopsied them and haven't seen that erosion of the plating but probably others have.
