Hey everyone, the "mystery streamers" have been confirmed to be a street light.  I asked the guy who e-mailed me the picture if I could see all of the others.  There is another picture with a very similar trail that is clearly a street light.

I'm sorry that I wasted the bandwidth of the list with such a trival pursuit.  I feel like an idiot :-P

That's the flash.  The flash "on time" is at least an order of  
magnitude shorter than the shutter open time.  Here's the EXIF data
