It kinda depends on your budget, and whether you plan
on building just disruptive coils, or a vacuum tube or
solid state coil.

I don't want to discourage you from purchasing that if
you really want to, but there of plenty of folks who
have built fairly large, high performing coils with
little more than a DMM (capacitance is handy). If
you're sure you're gonna stick with it, you can spend
a ton of money. Or you can get pretty good "starter"
equipment from HamFests. I'll let others speak to
features, as you can get pretty fancy.
