	I have made a coil with no former...

	I wound a small coil around a large candle. Varnished it with many
layers of yacht varnish and then cooked it in an oven to remove the candle,
leaving a coil held together with just varnish.

	It did perform as a TC secondary, I'm not sure if it was any better
than a coil wound on a PVC former though.

	I didn't use the coil for long as it was very delicate it only just
supported a top load on its own. 

Maybe if a much thicker layer of two pack epoxy was used instead of the
varnish a stronger coil could be made, but the more epoxy you use the
(assumed) benefits of having no former would be reduced.
