This two part tutorials are an excellent introduction to a major 
player in power electronics,
the ubiquitous IGBT.  There are predictions that except for low 
signal applications, and
power applications where power device must mimic a mechanical 
switch's operation
(<<0.010 ohms); IGBT's are beginning to reign supreme, even in low 
voltage power
applications (>100VDC).

Both are proctored by design engineers from Microsemi
(sans, APT [Applied Power Technology] ).  Good info for those of us on the
