The 453 is a great old scope. The easiest way to view the waveforms is simply make a basic antenna from a few inches if wire. With the output power from a Tesla coil, you don't need much of an antenna to capture a viewable output signal. If you have a scope probe, simply attach a few inches of wire to a probe tip. Put the antenna near where you are watching the coil activity. Another option would be to make a pickup coil of a few turns of wire of a couple inches in diameter and connect it to the scope input. You should be able to view the TC output wave form nicely with either method.

I recently acquired a Tektronix 453 oscilloscope. Is there any way to view the output from a 800kv Tesla coil through it without damaging it. It is an old (1965) tube model.
