I am using one on a rotary spark gap controlling 3/4 horsepower saw motor.
IT HAS A FUSE IN IT THAT IS ACCESSABLE FROM THE OUT SIDE!

Never have taken one apart but they will stand a lot of current.

Hi Ken,

I assume these controllers are similar to dimmers? Have you tried it in 
spark gap operation? It might be worth checking out even if to gut it 
and see it's insides.
