[TCML] Multilayered Secondary Coils...operation photos.

Here's more:http://www.electrotherapymuseum.com/2008/KinraideCoilReproductionTests/index.htm

There are three videos. The power supply here is my "universal" Tesla Coil tuner.

Additional reactance and a variac lowers the voltage across the adjustable cap from 700 - 1000V.
The videos were shot at first having one of the mains wires attached to the lowest setting of the reactance coil. The gap was too far to fire except when the circuit was broken periodically (the self-induction of the break raised the voltage enough to fire the gap in successive "pows".). As the reactance was decreased to the next button, current and voltage increased a bit and the gap was able to fire and thin crackling sparks appeared. As the current was gradually increased a flaming arc finally formed. The next tests will be done with a variety of circuits built espescially for this coil and gap, to operate on both AC and DC currents. Kinraide designed some very strange transformers to operate his coils. One form has two primary coils and no secondary coils. The primary coils were identical and in each leg of the mains, and a break was connected to the opposite leads. This break would interrupt the current in the primaries like a kicking coil, and the self-induction was used to charge a cap in parallel to discharge through the water-cooled gap in series with the Tesla coils.

Another form of transformer he designed was like a Pancake Coil, but wrapped in iron. The concept looks really interesting. The windings are opposite that of an NST or MOT, high voltage taken from the inner-most layers of the coils, with the least resistance...
