Re: [TCML] Looking for a nive plate transformer

Dr. R,

Yes, I have a couple of extra transformers that "could" be
modified by removing a significant portion of the secondary
winding to get down to the 4 to 5 kV range - a 25 kVA rated 14,400 volt pig and a 10 or 15 kVA? rated 20 kV dry core bombarder. However, I am not interested in messing up either of these nice transformers by tearing
out 3/4 of their secondary windings. What would you
need to get for your 3000 volt, 1.1 amp plate transformer?

I have a 3 kV 1100 mA plate xmfr.

I also have a 14.4 kV, 10 kVA pole xmfr. Sec can be unwound to 4-5 kV
range. I remove the core/coil assembly and drop them into
a 18 x 18 square x 19" high steel tank with phenolic lid. You set sec
current with a series power reactor.

In a tank, with oil, it won't even get warm at 800 mA current draw.

Hi all,

I have been running my VTTC on 2 seriesed ouput MOTs and
am finding that the MOTs can get smoking hot and start to
stink during operation. I was wondering if anyone might have
a plate transformer rated in the 4 to 5 kV @ 600 to 800 mA
range that they would be willing to sell or trade for? Decent
plate transformers with voltage and current ratings in this
neighborhood seem hard to locate on ebay these days.
Peter Dahl made ones show up some but are quite pricey.

Thanks,
David
