Yeah, I agree. Even some of the smaller discharges before the coils connected looked like they were "enhanced" - made thicker, brighter, and whiter. I suspect that regular TC discharges from the small twins may not have looked impressive enough for the show's producers... :^) 

BTW, anyone on the list know who supplied the coils?

Just a tesla coil reference seen on Fox. As absurd as the show can
be sometimes, the show Fringe just featured two tesla coils. Their
use was to alter the magnetic tracking instinct in pigeons so they
could locate a specific person...
