I just spiral right off the end of the sec wire and use a 3/4 inch slow turn
up into the toroid itself (small 10-24 threaded fastener).  I usually slip a
short 24 inch length of PE tubing over
the sec wire from the very end of the sec to the toroid.  I use a small dab
on NON-CONDUCTIVE epoxy or GE Silicone II to affix the end of the last
winding of the sec coil.

I extend the sec wire slightly to allow enough for this spiral.  Usually not
a good idea to make a connection as you have done.  It might work or it
might start
slowly breaking down your sec coil.

Another good idea is to spacewind the last 3 turns of your sec using a small
cord, string, or plastic fishing cable.  This slowly decreases the
capacitance in the last few
windings and prevents excessive electrical pressure at the very end of the
last winding.  This procedure is used in HV xmfrs such as flybacks, etc.
With flybacks,
they reduce the number of turns by 20% in the last 2-3 layers and usually
spacwind the entire last layer.

Since you have already expoxied your connection in place, perhaps operate it
at reduced output until you can establish that it will not produce excessive
corona.
