Thanks much for a starting range. I have my feeler gauge (50mm) in hand and
will document the resulting discharge voltage @ 800ft.

Hi Jim,

I'm not sure how elevation will vary this value, but breakdown should be 
right at 50mils (pretty narrow). But depending on the surface of the 
dowels, elevation, pressure, etc.. the gap setting may need to be 
slightly larger a few mils to achieve a 5kv breakdown.
