RE: [TCML] HV Transformer Winding

Hello.
I am just off to the workshop now try a temporary coil. I may have enough
small gauge scrap to wind a very low-voltage primary though, that would not
need many turns and that could be done by hand.
The reason for not doing this originally is that the lathe (my winding
machine) is all setup for the next secondary, and I don't really want to
break it all down to wind the new primary and then have to set it all up
again for the other secondary. The lathe setup is far from straightforward
as I didn't have sufficient centre height as standard. You can see the setup
I'm using here

Hi Bart,
Flipping a coil bobbin does not change its winding direction (counter
intuitive). Test it with a spring of scrap piece of wire. Aren't neon
transformers wound in opposite directions (similar core scenario)?

Phil,

I'm in the same boat as Finn here. I'm thinking the windings are wound
in opposite directions myself, but I'm not certain. I expected that you
would be winding the secondary coils on individual bobbins at first and
simply sliding them onto the core (in which case you could just test it
flipping one of the bobbins). But are you winding the secondary coils on
the core itself? If so, then Finn's suggestion is certainly the test to
perform.

Take care,
Bart
