Re: [TCML] Ignition coil etc

please read the article to which I referred you. AC is the WRONG answer. The reverse EMF on a kettering ignition is typically about 250V on the primary, I used 450 for my particular CD ignition - that gets a several inch long spark off a 6V coil. Remember, the exictation voltage is irrelevant, it's the voltage rise when the points open that is what does the work - or if you prefer, the collapsling magnetic field. AC will just burn out the ignition coil ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rhys Sage" <rhys_sage@xxxxxxxxx>

Well I just tried the 16v AC into my 12v coil. I didn't get much out bar a slight crackle as I moved the wire close to the negative terminal. I guess I need to do something different. That was in no way enough to light up a spark plug!
