Re: [TCML] 1st Run

Technically, yes, however the safty gap never fired. I put together a design based on several sources. The Terry Filter schematic I found has the NST side grounded to the mid point ground on the NST, and has the RF ground on the side with the safty gap. Another design for a TC had the LV bottom of the secondary grounded to the RF ground. So, my design tied the LV of the secondary and Ground/SG side of the Terry Filter wired to my ground rod in my back yard.

Ideas for design are greatly welcome.

Best Regards,
Miles

Ah yes, didn't the ground wire pass through your secondary carriage bolt to get to the safety gap? So whenever your safety gap fired, there had to be a huge amount of power coursing into that bolt, and potentially through your secondary... Am I right?

I'd say something was wrong for sure.... Yes, .06uF primary capacitor. JavaTC
specs are here -> http://www.cmnow.com/TeslaMan/Miles%20Specs.txt

I think a big part of the problem was to secure the secondary with a carrage
bolt and using it for the RF ground connection and having the HV side of the
secondary inside the tube too. These two connections were onlyy 20" apart, an
easy jump for 1.4kVA input power.

Hi miles, something must be terribly wrong here. It looks like you have .06 uf
in your primary capacitor. From the picture it doesn't' look like your
secondary would be in tune with your primary circuit. can you give us the specs
on your secondary coil?
