Re: [TCML] 1st Run

Miles,

I looked at specs... 3 main problems I see (power is not one of them).

1) hv construction.. which was already discussed in this thread.
2) Cap size is big for the coil size... bang energy is too much. SRSG size for xfmr is in that range for LTR, but there is also the coil size to consider in this.. I suggest moving to 1/2 that LTR given the coil size. 3) coupling is also high in the problematic area. need to get that down a little.

The hot primary you mentioned early on is a key indicator of the energy and current in the primary. Bang energy over time, primary impedance, and coupling all tie together to make that primary hot... I think you really need to reduce that cap size, or build a bigger coil to handle it..

Best regards,
Bart

I'd say something was wrong for sure.... Yes, .06uF primary capacitor. JavaTC specs are here -> http://www.cmnow.com/TeslaMan/Miles%20Specs.txt

I think a big part of the problem was to secure the secondary with a carrage bolt and using it for the RF ground connection and having the HV side of the secondary inside the tube too. These two connections were onlyy 20" apart, an easy jump for 1.4kVA input power.

Hi miles, something must be terribly wrong here. It looks like you have .06 uf in your primary capacitor. From the picture it doesn't' look like your secondary would be in tune with your primary circuit. can you give us the specs on your secondary coil?
