Re: [TCML] Corona Supression

""Is this silicon tape anything like Teflon tape?""

It is thicker, wider and more durable than teflon.
You couldnt wrap it around threads prior to fastening like teflon, but
you could do it afterwards.
It must also be terminated back onto itself for proper adhesion.
It is AKA "Tommy Tape" and "Rescue Tape".
Here are some links;

http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|328|49758|319689&id=1257282

In one link they rate its dielectric strength at 8000 volts per layer,
the other 400 volts per mil, so I guess its about 20 mils thick (1000
mils = 1 inch).
In theory, I cannot say from practice, 4 layers should hold off 32KV,
5 layers - 40KV, etc.

My personal experience with it is from the construction of my Van de
Graaff generator.
I use it as a coating for the top roller because it is at the extreme
negative end of the triboelectric series, just before teflon that is,
but teflon by nature doesnt stick to anything.
I use Nylon for the + roller. But this is not a Van de Graaf forum, so
I digress.
