Re: [TCML] Piggy weight

Bob,

The weight of a pole transformer of a given kVA rating can vary
a bit, due to different tank designs/capacities, but a 5 kVA pig
should typically fall into the 175 to 225 lb. range, assuming the
oil is to the proper operational level. If it was me, "I" would per-
sonally opt for a 10 kVA unit, though. Yes, a 10 kVA unit will
be a bit heavier (usually 225 to 275 lb. range), but will handle
just about anything that you can throw at it from your residential
single phase electrical service. (Yes, I am now in the "prestigious"
club of individuals who has managed to kill a pole pig) and guess
what - it was a 5 kVA unit that I "kilt". ;^o I've never killed a
bigger one to date, applying the same type of abuse, so I'm inclined
to think that my 5 kVA was just not "up to the task".
