Re: [TCML] Help to verify connections of ballast

Hi,

I connected it in series with the primary of the nst while the secondary was shorted to mesure currentdraw. The AC and DC is the same setting on my DMM. I didnt find the manual tho. Dont have it here so i cant check the model/brand but it was "scy" or somthing simular.

About the wiring, i think it would be better if i understand the concept fully and not only how it need to be connected.

I think i did the wiring all wrong btw.

Is this how its done below.
For the transformer primary to act as an iron core inductor and not draw current i need to short the secondarys to the core/groundtap so it becomes a part of the core and not connect the mains ground or it will draw current ?
Is this wrong or right ?

Do i leave the core floating or not ?

If wrong how does it need to be connected ?

Regards
Andreas

Hi,

I hooked my NST:s up in paralell with the secondarys shorted using
the primaries as ballasts for my larger HV transformer later on.
Its one 450VA and a 600VA NST. They are supposed to be shorted on the
output right ?

I tried to mesure the current of each one before i hooked them up but
got strange reading that jumped all over the place.. hmm.
They both work to spec. so mayby my dmm is wierd.. (yes i mesured the
primary side and had it hooked up to A and COM)

Here is a pic.
The black mains wires comes from the same source.
The wireing will be better arranged later, want to test if it works
first. :)

Sounds like you were trying to measure AC on a DC setting. What meter do you have, what setting was it on, and how exactly did you connect it.

Can't tell anything from the pic, is there a wiring legend on the unit? Need more information.
