I have that exact exact same china variac in your link, probably the most
annoying thing about them is that you can only run them at about 3/4 there
rating were if you get a powerstat you can usually run it past it's rating.

That 20A variac is only good for about 15 amp. Always de-rate china variac
by about 25%.
