Re: [TCML] VTTC Power Supply with 866A

I'm a tube man from way way back and have used both 866A's and their big brothers the 872A but if I were to build something now I'd for sure go to solid state. Smaller, simpler, cooler, and relatively inexpensive. If you have the ambition you can always series connect a whole bunch of very cheap [<10 cents in quantity] rectifiers like the 1N4007.

Hello to the whole list,

I'm 'making a power supply for my VTTC, which uses mercury vapor rectifiers more' precisely the famous 866A.

I'm 'experiencing considerable problems because of the flash-over occur very often (even after vaporizing the mercury for at least 30 minutes) looking on the internet I found (also using the simulator PSU Designer II) that there is need of a "swinging choke", an essential component, but I can not find one, the value should be from 15 Henry 800mA.

Even for the high voltage transformer with center tap I had to use two MOT connected in series and in order to have a center-tapped transformer, the voltage is pretty damn low compared to what I had expected.

If I could find a transformer with at least 2800-0-2800 volts 600-700 mA, I will be 'hard to find.

On this website I found some ideas:

Someone can 'help on this?

I thank everyone in advance.
