Yes, I would agree that you should definitely try to address
the secondary flashover issue before trying to double your
power throughput. ;^0 As far as what you can expect in
spark output upon implementation of the power increase, from
my personal experience the longest "rogue" sparks don't
generally "reach out" that much further than at the lower
power level but they do tend to become thicker and the
longer reaching sparks tend to get notably more frequent.
For instance, with my Green Monster, it generally starts firing
pretty consistantly when the main control panel variac knob
is turned to around 50 or 55 on the 0-100 dial. Cranking it
on up to 85 or 90 definitely increases the frequency of the
ground strikes and the thickness and ferocity of the spark
channels, with a proportionate increase in meter input voltage
and current draw, but it doesn't really seem to have as much
affect on how far the furtherest reaching rogue sparks "reach".

My sparks generally tend to reach into the 10 to 12 foot
catergory, with the occasional "rogue" jumping out to 13 or 14 ft.
With your taller secondary (57" vs. my 49") and your larger toroid
(60" major diameter vs. my 56"), your coil may actually surpass
the spark length performance of mine, though.

Thank you for your kind words and I'm glad to be able to
pass on what little bit of info that I have been able to gleen
on this subject matter onto a young, enthusiastic "next gene-
ration" coiler. :^)

Keep 'em Sparkin, but be safe,
David
