Sync vs. async - was Re: [TCML] 3 phase sync.

Hi Kevin,

From looking at the more recent videos of
your magnificent super sized coil, it appears
(sounds) that you have been running sync for a while. I was just wondering, wasn't the Biggg coil originally running async? And if so, when did you change over to sync and when going
sync, did you keep the same sized original pri-
mary tank C? Seems like your original primary C was ~ .176 uFd? I've come to realize that most high powered SG coil systems get by with a relative-
ly small tank C because of the higher-than-mains-
frequency break rate often emplyed in async rotory SG systems that allows more shots per second, at a given voltage. It would appear that to keep a comparable power throughput, one would have to resort to a proportionately larger tank C, or increase the voltage, when cutting the break rate from the several hundred bps usually employed in async driven systems to the 120 bps that would run sync to a 60 hz mains.?

Thanks all for the responses. I was thinking of modifying my 7 1/2 HP
dynamic 3 phase converter to sync. and replace my
Biggg Tesla coils single phase sync. gap motor with a 3 HP sync. 3 phase
motor. Just an idea.
