Hi David,

Once I tried to sell my old beloved car, which has been replaced with a
newer (family) car. Advertising it it for a few months, a guy showed up and
wanted to take a test drive...
The car wouldn't start at the fist time... or second... or third time.. He
walked away , both of us disappointed. So I know how you feel. (The second
time I sold it, making sure it would would run when needed) So;


Check for dust/pollution everywhere (when did you run it last time? Last
week, month, year, movement ago?)

Clamp an ammeter and voltmeter on things with every step

Check polarities on DC parts.

Check the bridge rectifier, maybe one of the 4 diode series isn't doing
it's job. Maybe a peak current or voltage destroys it (charging an emty cap)

Pull out the filter and see what it does without.

Don't solder things, use screw terminal connections.


Looking back on your post, it seems to be something DC related. So I would
focus first on DC related things.
Upgrade your Cp and convert to SRSG, everything will be better (just a lame
joke)

Since you're running it succesfully for some seconds/minutes, all should be
connected as supposed to, but something is overloading and gives way
eventually.
A peak current or peak voltage is exceeding specs somewhere or maybe
overheating. Maybe the new electrolytic cap has better actual specs (higher
capacitance) than the replaced one.

When necessary and/or if possible, revert to the original situation and
methodically trace and double check every step. Once the problem is found,
the cause will be obvious (and you'll smack your hand against your head.
