Anthony,

The tuning of a SRSG coil is divided into 2 phases:

The tuning of the Tesla coil itself, meaning that you find the best 
tapping point on the primary coil.

This is best done with a static gap.

When the coil is in tune, you can progress to find the best operating 
point on the SRSG.
