[TCML] N. Tesla's large glass vacuum tubes

A quick OT question...

I've heard from more than one person that Tesla had a secret method of
building very large glass globes, but without using glassblowing or cast
molten glass.  Possibly this was something developed during his carbon-
button lightbulb days.  But I've never seen any of this discussed in
writing.  (The glass globes mentioned in CSN could have been entirely
conventional.)  Large glass globes show up several places in Tesla
illustrations.

Has anyone else heard of this particular bit of unpatented Tesla work,
or ever encountered an actual reference?
