Hey Clive...

as is, it would work fine for coiling but the draw backs are size weight 
cost and a power supply needed to use it to its capacity. Just a rough 
estimate would be around 350 A at 240 VAC to run it. Most "home" feeders 
go to 200A from the pole and most distribution trannies in residential 
areas ( in the USA) are rated for 25KVA, probably black out he 
neighborhood before you got it up to half power.
