Remove the metal case carefully with a chisel.

Store the tar block in a freezer for 24 hrs, then wack with a hammer to
remove the larger chunks.

Fire up an oudoor BBQ grill on charcoal.  Then, heat for 1 hr in a metal
(disposable) cook pan in a closed BBQ grill (charcoal type).  This melts
away most all of the tar.

Finish cleaning with kerosine --- DO NOT use gasoline.
