1) Weight -- Tar is heavier.
2) Portability -- You can drain the oil into small containers for moving  
coil.
3) Saturation -- Entrained air is much easier to remove from oil than  tar.
4) Oil doesn't dry out and crack. (see inside an NST)
5) Messiness/Removability -- (cf Joel C Harris's "Br'er Rabbit & the  Tar 
Baby)
