Hey douglas...

is this a question from an EE test?  :)
are you considering a static gap or a rotory gap?
A rotory gap is determined by the rpms of the motor and the number of 
presentations per revolution.
A static gap can be roughly determined by the output of the secondary 
current of the transformer supplying the power and the capacitance  
incorporated in the primary
circuit of the coil ( L1/C1) for a very rough estimate....  there are 
others here that can give you more details on that equation to find 
exactly what you need to know.
