Because of stupid lawsuits, a lot of vendors coat glass with a
plastic film in the event the glass is broken, the film prevents
loose pieces of glass from flying around and possibly injuring someone.
Automobile glass is a good example, there is a plastic film
sandwiched between 2 layers of glass. If the window is broken the
glass grazes and remains stuck to the plastic instead of all over.
