[TCML] Bi-Polar coil construction plans/tips/etc ?

was thinkin' of building one.... prob 6" dia  sec.   are output sparks generaly limited to the length of the sec. , or less ? ....is the sec. wound in the same direction ,from end to end ?, 

   would following plans from the 'High  Frequency Apparatus' book be of any use ??
