Phillip,

I use the "staccato" terminology to describe many types of pulsed modes of
operation in a vacuum tube or solid state coil.  I originally chose the staccato
word in my early work not because of how the pulse mode was created but
rather because of the sound the coils make.  I understand that the referenced 
coil works differently than traditional VTTC staccato coils.  At 1.5pps, the coil
may sound like a rather slow staccato.

I think I know the coil you're referencing here.  That coil doesn't use

staccato, at least not in the sense that the filament is grounded to turn

the coil every few mains half cycles.  That coil has a special power supply,

not a mains frequency transformer for the B+ supply.  The pulse rate is

pretty low, about 1.5pps I think.
