polyester capacitors might have too much loss.  Generally, polypropylene 
dielectric is preferred for TC use.

Are the capacitors failing because of overvoltage or from overheating? 
How many do you have in series?  Do you have a capacitor model #?



But the problem is my

What do your Leyden jar caps look like? What is their capacitance (if 
you know?)
